LONDON, UK, LOS ANGELES and NEW YORK – The Women`s Tennis Association (WTA) has partnered with Wasserman, a global sports and entertainment company, to manage its sales operations. This collaboration is designed to accelerate the WTA`s ongoing expansion. Wasserman will be responsible for all levels of partnerships, with a primary focus on securing a new top-tier Premier Partner for the WTA.
This decision to bring in Wasserman comes as the WTA experiences positive momentum, highlighted by the recent unveiling of a fresh brand identity. This new branding initiative, alongside the introduction of the Premier Partner sponsorship opportunity, is part of WTA Ventures` broader strategy to advance women`s professional tennis. This strategy builds upon the WTA`s recent commercial success, marked by a 25% increase in revenue in 2024.
The WTA stands as a leading force in women`s professional sports, showcasing top athletes in competitions across six continents. Reaching over one billion viewers globally and experiencing a 25% growth in social media followers last year, the WTA is the most-watched women`s sport worldwide. This popularity makes it a valuable platform for brands. Beyond sports, the WTA aims to make a positive societal impact by inspiring future generations and supporting global communities through advocacy and actions promoting women`s health and empowerment.
Wasserman’s Rights Sales division will be dedicated to the WTA partnership. Known for its work with major sports organizations, Wasserman has a track record of securing high-value commercial deals. Their recent successes in Formula 1, International Rugby, and Cricket demonstrate their leadership in the industry. Wasserman`s current partners include prominent names like the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Road Runners, and Netflix.
Wasserman Rights Sales will collaborate with The Collective, Wasserman’s division focused on women`s impact, to identify and engage potential partners. The Collective has partnerships with Athletes Unlimited and the Netball Super League, and has consulted for organizations like the WNBA, NWSL, and LPGA.
Marina Storti, CEO of WTA Ventures, stated: “The WTA is the premier stage for women’s tennis. With our revitalized brand, we are committed to increasing our global influence. By leveraging Wasserman’s expertise, we aim to partner with organizations that share our vision of promoting the sport, celebrating our athletes, and pushing the boundaries of what’s achievable through sports.”
Chris Foy, Wasserman Executive Vice President, Rights Sales for North America, commented: “We are honored to partner with the WTA, a global leader in sports and entertainment. As the WTA enters an exciting new phase, it offers a strong platform for partners, and we are eager to present this opportunity to the global market.”
The Hologic WTA Tour, offering a record $221 million in prize money in 2024, is a global event spanning six continents. The season culminates in November with the WTA Finals, celebrating the top singles and doubles players of the year.
