UFC Contender Cory Sandhagen Seeks Title Shot with Humorous Brand Manager Skit

MMA news

`The Sandman` Cory Sandhagen is exploring new strategies to secure another opportunity to fight for the UFC bantamweight title.

Cory Sandhagen has been a prominent figure in the UFC`s bantamweight division since his debut in 2018, consistently ranking among the top fighters.

After a setback against Umar Nurmagomedov last August, which hindered his title aspirations, Sandhagen is determined to regain momentum. His next fight is scheduled for May 3 against former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo.

The announcement of a title rematch for Sean O’Malley against Merab Dvalishvili was met with criticism from fans, who questioned O’Malley`s entitlement to a rematch after losing the title at UFC 306 and not competing since.

Currently holding the #4 ranking, the 32-year-old Sandhagen is proactively seeking ways to enhance his public image and strengthen his position as a title contender.

Cory Sandhagen Gets Fashion Advice from His ‘Brand Manager’ in New Skit

Sean O’Malley`s significant star power within the UFC, combined with the narratives surrounding his first fight with Merab Dvalishvili, makes his immediate title rematch somewhat expected.

Cory Sandhagen, while respected as a top contender, is not known for generating excessive hype or self-promotion to get ahead in the competitive bantamweight division.

‘The Sandman’ typically prefers to let his performances in the Octagon speak for themselves. However, this approach might be evolving.

Leading up to his main event fight against Deiveson Figueiredo in Iowa, Sandhagen has been sharing his training journey through his “Stupid Fight Vlogs” series on YouTube.

In his latest vlog episode, Sandhagen humorously introduces a new member to his team, a “brand manager,” to help him elevate his public profile beyond just his fighting skills.

In a comedic skit, Sandhagen is seen receiving advice from his newly appointed “brand manager.”

“I took your advice last week about moving away from being awkward and weird, so I reduced my Instagram posting as you suggested. But honestly, it feels a bit inauthentic,” Sandhagen says in the skit.

“I’m not sure why I need a brand. I don’t really get this whole brand thing, but I’m trusting you. Just tell me what to do to get title fights; that’s all I really care about.”

Fully trusting his brand manager, Sandhagen then appears on screen with a new, manager-designed look, featuring low-slung trousers, a white vest, chains, and sunglasses.

“Dude, I’m not sure about this look. I feel kind of ridiculous. Is this really the direction we’re going? I feel like I look like Sean O’Malley in the 9th grade.”

Comedy Skits Might Actually Help Cory Sandhagen

While Cory Sandhagen`s hiring of a brand manager is clearly a self-deprecating joke, these kinds of videos allow fans to connect with his personality and sense of humor.

It`s widely acknowledged that Sandhagen is one of the best bantamweights globally, but for various reasons, a UFC title win has eluded him. Title opportunities are rare, making it crucial to build fan engagement.

With Merab Dvalishvili set to fight Sean O’Malley next, and contenders like Petr Yan also in the mix, Sandhagen might face a wait for a title shot even if he defeats Deiveson Figueiredo on May 3.

However, a significant advantage for Sandhagen is that he is one of the few top contenders Dvalishvili hasn`t yet faced. This could position him as a compelling fresh matchup for ‘The Machine’ if Dvalishvili retains the title.

Ultimately, gaining more fans and increasing public interest in his career will only strengthen Sandhagen`s case for a title opportunity.
