Cejudo, who had previously retired in 2020 after defending his bantamweight title, returned to the octagon in 2023. Despite his legendary status, his comeback has been challenging, including a recent controversial defeat to Song Yadong due to an eye poke.

In his UFC Seattle fight against Song Yadong, which ended in a technical decision due to eye pokes, Cejudo sustained severe injuries. He was concerned about his eyesight after the fight.

Following the fight, Cejudo reported diplopia, soft tissue damage, and a corneal abrasion. Doctors warned him about the potential for blindness in one eye due to the injury.

Despite joking about the injury in a post-fight interview, the incident highlighted serious health risks.
