Iconic Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has officially announced his decision to leave the English club after a remarkable 20-year association. Multiple reports also suggest the right-back is set to join Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2025 as a free agent. Alexander-Arnold shared his long-anticipated decision and posted an emotional video across his social media platforms.
In his statement, he expressed, “After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season. This is easily the hardest decision I`ve ever made in my life.” He acknowledged speculation about his future but stated his intention was always to maintain full focus on the team`s best interests until the season concluded. He passionately described the club as his “whole life – my whole world – for 20 years,” expressing deep gratitude for the unwavering support from everyone associated with Liverpool. “I will forever be in debt to you all,” he added.
Alexander-Arnold explained that his motivation for leaving stems from a desire to embrace a “new challenge,” stepping “out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally.” He reflected on his dedication, stating, “I`ve given my all every single day I`ve been at this club, and I hope you feel like I`ve given back to you during my time here.” He concluded his heartfelt message by thanking his coaches, managers, teammates, staff, and the “incredible supporters” for the past two decades, emphasizing he was “blessed enough to live out my dreams here” and would “never, ever take for granted the special moments.” His message ended with a powerful affirmation: “My love for this club will never die.”
Liverpool Football Club also confirmed the defender`s impending departure. The club noted that the 26-year-old would conclude his “two-decade-long association with the Reds” when his current contract expires on June 30, 2025. Liverpool conveyed their “gratitude and appreciation for his contribution during a sustained period of success.”
Alexander-Arnold initially joined Liverpool`s Academy at the age of six and progressed through the youth ranks before making his senior debut in 2016. During his time at Anfield, he made 352 appearances for the Reds, netting 23 goals and securing eight major honors, including a Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League in the 2018-19 season. He is now widely anticipated to finalize his move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2025 once his contract with Liverpool officially ends on June 30.
