Swiatek Advances to Stuttgart Quarterfinals with Strong Performance

Sports News

World No. 2 Iga Swiatek has once again demonstrated her prowess in Stuttgart. Following a bye in the first round, Swiatek secured her place in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix quarterfinals by defeating Croatian qualifier Jana Fett in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

After the match, Swiatek expressed her satisfaction with her performance, stating, “I`m happy that I found a good rhythm. I took my time to adjust to the court, and it felt great. I`m pleased to have another opportunity to play here.”

Swiatek`s dominance on clay courts in recent years is undeniable, and her Stuttgart record reflects this. In her fourth appearance at the tournament, she has consistently reached at least the quarterfinals.

Here are some key statistics highlighting Swiatek`s recent victory on clay:

11: Swiatek`s impressive record at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix now stands at 11 wins and just 1 loss. She is a two-time champion in Stuttgart, having defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the finals of 2022 and 2023. Her only defeat came against Elena Rybakina in last year`s semifinals, who went on to win the tournament.

18: With her win against Fett, Swiatek extends her winning streak to 18 matches against opponents ranked outside the Top 150.

Her last loss to a player ranked below 150 was over four years ago, against Ana Konjuh at the 2021 Miami Open. Konjuh was ranked No. 338 at the time. (Note: Alexandra Eala, ranked No. 140, defeated Swiatek in Miami earlier this year.)

0: Swiatek was dominant in the first set, not allowing Fett a single break point opportunity. While Fett showed resilience by saving six out of eight break points in the first set, she couldn`t penetrate Swiatek`s serve.

1:16: In the second set, Fett briefly challenged Swiatek, breaking her serve in the opening game to take a 2-0 lead. However, Swiatek quickly regained control, winning the next six games to close out the match in one hour and 16 minutes.

9: Double faults proved costly for Fett, who committed nine throughout the match. One double fault resulted in losing the first set, and another occurred on Swiatek`s second match point, ending the match.

81: Swiatek`s serve was highly effective, winning 81 percent of her first-serve points and only being broken once in the match.

0-4: Fett`s record against Top 10 players is now 0-4. She previously came close to a Top 10 victory against Caroline Wozniacki at the 2018 Australian Open, holding two match points but ultimately losing.

0-5: In the upcoming quarterfinals, Swiatek is set to face either No. 7 seed Emma Navarro or Jelena Ostapenko. Swiatek has a 2-0 head-to-head record against Navarro. However, Ostapenko presents a tougher challenge, as Swiatek has lost all five of their previous encounters, including a match earlier this year in Doha.
