Svitolina and Top Players Set for Strasbourg Tournament

Sports News

The official entry list for the Internationaux de Strasbourg main draw has been released. The tournament is set to feature a strong field, with seven players from the Top 20 of the PIF WTA Rankings scheduled to compete for the final WTA 500 clay-court trophy of the year.

Elina Svitolina, a two-time winner of the Strasbourg event, is among the notable entrants. She aims to make history by becoming the first player since Anabel Medina Garrigues in 2008 to claim the singles title three times.

The Ukrainian player is enjoying an impressive clay-court season in 2024, having won her first nine matches on the surface. Recently, Svitolina reached the semifinals of the Madrid Open, marking her first WTA 1000 semifinal appearance since 2021.

Strasbourg holds special significance for Svitolina; her victory in 2023 was her first WTA title after returning to the tour following maternity leave earlier that year. She also secured the Strasbourg title in 2020.

Another former champion confirmed for the main draw is reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova. Krejcikova won her inaugural WTA singles title in Strasbourg in 2021, just two weeks before going on to win her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.

The entry list includes several other prominent players. Among the Top 10 ranked players are World No. 9 Paula Badosa and World No. 10 Emma Navarro. In addition to Svitolina and Krejcikova, other Top 20 players slated to compete include Daria Kasatkina, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Liudmila Samsonova.

The field also features the 2020 Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin, along with former Grand Slam finalists Danielle Collins and Leylah Fernandez.

Additional wild card entries for the event will be announced closer to the tournament start date. The main draw competition in Strasbourg is scheduled to begin on Sunday, May 18.
