Serena Williams Honored on List of Most Influential People

Sports News

Serena Williams has been named in TIME magazine`s 2025 list of the world`s 100 most influential individuals, marking her third appearance on this prestigious list. This annual recognition celebrates global figures who are shaping the world and driving progress.

Allyson Felix, an Olympic track champion, wrote the tribute for Williams`s inclusion in the `Titans` category, alongside figures like gymnast Simone Biles, actress Blake Lively, and Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels. In her piece, Felix empathized with Williams, a former world No. 1 tennis player, regarding overcoming pregnancy complications and returning to competition after giving birth.

Felix highlighted that Williams, previously honored in 2010 and 2014 for her tennis achievements, exemplifies that athletes are multifaceted individuals. She praised Williams for her continued boundary-breaking.

Felix wrote, “Whether it`s through her venture capital firm investing in businesses founded by women and people of color, becoming part of the ownership of the Toronto Tempo WNBA expansion team, or dancing at the Super Bowl halftime show, she consistently demonstrates that athletes are far from one-dimensional.”

“She doesn`t need to engage in these activities. She could opt to retreat from the public eye and focus on her family. Instead, she persists in leading the way. Numerous female athletes see themselves in Serena. Her triumphs resonate as victories for all of us,” Felix concluded.

Williams`s selection was accompanied by an extensive profile by Sean Gregory, where she openly discussed her business ventures, including Serena Ventures; influential female athletes like Caitlin Clark, with whom she recently connected; and her contentment with her evolving life beyond tennis, despite feeling physically capable of competing on tour even at 43.

“I`ve dedicated my entire life to tennis, and I would willingly give another two years if I had the time. However, it`s refreshing to explore different paths,” she stated.

Coco Gauff commented on Williams` recognition after reaching the quarterfinals at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, saying, “Being among the most influential people of all time is an incredible achievement that she truly deserves. She has influenced millions, including myself, not just in tennis but globally, inspiring strong women, especially women of color.”

“It`s well-deserved. I wasn`t surprised to see it. Her photos looked fantastic.”
