UFC welterweight contender Sean Brady strongly criticized Ian Machado Garry following UFC London.
After his dominant victory over Leon Edwards at UFC London last Saturday, Sean Brady has positioned himself for a potential welterweight title opportunity. His impressive submission win over Edwards solidified his status as a top contender to face the winner of the upcoming Belal Muhammad versus Jack Della Maddalena fight at UFC 315.
Brady is riding high after achieving the most significant win of his career, demonstrating considerable improvement since his previous loss to Muhammad at UFC 280. Nearly three years after their first encounter, Brady is now close to a rematch with Muhammad, assuming Muhammad defeats Maddalena at UFC 315.
However, the announcement of the UFC 315 main event did not please Ian Machado Garry, who had expected to be considered to fight Muhammad in Montreal.
Sean Brady Addresses Ian Machado Garry’s Disappointment Regarding UFC 315 Title Fight
Ian Machado Garry, another welterweight fighter, recently expressed his frustration when questioned about his return to the Octagon. Garry revealed he anticipated the UFC to contact him to potentially replace Shavkat Rakhmonov and face Muhammad at UFC 315, after Rakhmonov`s injury complicated the title fight picture.
Garry`s remarks are notable because they come after his recent defeat to Rakhmonov at UFC 310. Brady, who had previously called out Garry after his victory over Gilbert Burns last year, quickly responded to Garry`s surprising statements.
During a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Brady sharply criticized Garry for his comments about the upcoming welterweight title fight.
“I seized the moment and took this opportunity… I heard he was complaining about not getting the fight with Belal!” Brady stated. “He lost his last fight! What’s he talking about? Finishing in second place doesn`t earn you a reward. Jack making sense for it is obvious…”
“He’s ranked number seven now? He’s coming off a loss. I’ve won my last three fights, including a win against a former and very respected champion. I am focused on bigger goals than Ian Machado Garry.”
If Garry had been chosen to fight Muhammad at UFC 315, it would have been unusual in UFC history for a fighter to receive a title shot after losing their previous fight. A rare example is Nick Diaz, who fought Georges St-Pierre for the title despite a controversial loss to Carlos Condit in his prior bout.
Sean Brady Mocks Leon Edwards After UFC London Loss
The tension between Brady and Edwards continued after UFC London. Brady mocked Edwards on social media after the fight, imitating Edwards`s signature `headshot dead` pose and catchphrase.
As of now, Edwards has not publicly commented on his defeat at UFC London. This marks the first time in Edwards`s MMA career that he has suffered consecutive losses, following his title loss to Muhammad at UFC 304 last July.
Brady`s victory at UFC London was met with boos from some spectators at The O2 Arena, with many leaving before the fight concluded. Joaquin Buckley, another top welterweight contender, also called out Brady after his win.
Currently, Brady is performing exceptionally well in the UFC welterweight division and is very close to contending for a world championship.
Dustin Poirier watched as an MMA fighter used The Rock’s signature WWE move just before securing a KO victory.
