The draw for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart has been revealed, showcasing a star-studded lineup. This prestigious WTA 500 tournament, held indoors on clay at the Porsche-Arena, will host eleven of the world`s top twenty female tennis players. The event marks the beginning of the clay-court season in Europe.
The champion of the singles competition will be awarded €142,610 in prize money, 500 WTA ranking points, and a coveted Porsche Macan Turbo.
The main tournament matches are scheduled to commence on Monday, April 14th, culminating in the singles final on Monday, April 21st. Notably, there will be no matches played on Friday, April 18th, due to the Good Friday holiday.
The top four seeded players, who also hold the top four positions in the WTA rankings, will receive a bye in the first round.
Draw Highlights
First Quarter
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka is the top seed in the draw. She is aiming for her first title in Stuttgart, having finished as runner-up for the past three years, from 2021 to 2023.
After her first-round bye, Sabalenka will compete against either Anastasia Potapova or Clara Tauson in the second round. If the seedings are maintained, a quarterfinal match between Sabalenka and No. 8 seed Diana Shnaider is anticipated.
Second Quarter
No. 4 seed Coco Gauff leads the second quarter. She awaits the winner of the first-round match between Danielle Collins and wildcard entry Tatjana Maria in her opening match.
Notably, all four German wildcard players are placed in this quarter of the draw. No. 5 seed Jasmine Paolini is positioned at the opposite end of this quarter and could potentially face German wildcards in her first two matches. A second-round encounter between Paolini and 2017 Stuttgart champion Laura Siegemund is a possibility.
Third Quarter
This quarter may feature a quarterfinal showdown between two of the most successful players of the year so far, No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula and No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva, if seedings hold.
Pegula arrives in Stuttgart fresh from winning the first WTA 500 clay-court title of the season in Charleston. She currently leads the WTA Tour in main-draw match wins this year with 25 victories.
However, 17-year-old Andreeva is not far behind in terms of wins. The young player has already secured 20 match victories this season, boosted by winning back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells.
Fourth Quarter
No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek is positioned at the bottom of the draw. Swiatek has an impressive 10-1 record in Stuttgart, having won the tournament in both 2022 and 2023. Her perfect streak was broken by Elena Rybakina in the semifinals last year.
If Swiatek reaches the quarterfinals, she may face No. 7 seed Emma Navarro. Another potential opponent in the quarterfinals for Swiatek is Jelena Ostapenko, a former Roland Garros champion, who holds a 5-0 head-to-head record against Swiatek.
