Since joining the PFL, Paul ‘Big News’ Hughes has impressed on the global stage and is now set to compete in front of his home crowd.
Usman Nurmagomedov acknowledged Paul Hughes`s strong performance in their Bellator lightweight title fight in January. The decision in favor of Nurmagomedov was disputed, and he suggested Hughes needs another victory before a rematch.
Hughes had hoped to fight Brent Primus, but Primus is unavailable due to the 2025 lightweight World Tournament.
PFL Europe announced an event in Belfast on May 10, where Hughes will be the main attraction, fulfilling his dream.
On May 10th, Paul Hughes will have a homecoming fight in Ireland after his notable performance against Usman Nurmagomedov, coinciding with the third PFL Europe tournament.
The PFL has announced that Bruno Miranda of Brazil will be Hughes`s opponent. Miranda, 34, joined PFL in 2022 and initially extended his win streak to seven fights.
Miranda`s winning streak was interrupted by losses to Brent Primus and Olivier Aubin-Mercier, a former two-time PFL lightweight champion.
Miranda recovered with a split decision victory over Patricky Pitbull in June, which the PFL recognized as one of the top five fights of 2024.
Miranda aims to prevent Hughes from getting a rematch with Usman Nurmagomedov, a fight that would be a major event for the PFL.
Paul Hughes has consistently demonstrated his ability to perform well under pressure.
Despite doubts after his PFL debut win in Dublin last June, Hughes excelled against AJ McKee, marking a turning point in his career.
He also challenged Usman Nurmagomedov, exceeding expectations and pushing the champion.
The 27-year-old fighter appears to thrive under pressure and will need this resilience to overcome Bruno Miranda and keep his title aspirations alive.
