Paolini and Furlan Conclude Decade-Long Coaching Partnership

Sports News

After a remarkable ten years of collaboration, Jasmine Paolini and her coach Renzo Furlan have decided to end their professional relationship. Paolini, currently ranked No. 6 in the world, shared the news of her separation from the 2024 WTA Coach of the Year on social media platforms on Monday.

In her Instagram post, Paolini expressed deep gratitude towards Furlan, highlighting his significant impact on her development, both as a tennis player and as an individual. She emphasized that the valuable lessons gained from him will continue to influence her career moving forward, and that he will always hold an important place in her life.

Furlan dedicated himself fully to coaching Paolini starting in 2020, following the conclusion of his tenure as president of the Serbian Tennis Federation. The 54-year-old`s exceptional coaching was recognized when he was named the WTA Tour`s best coach last year. This accolade was in recognition of his instrumental role in guiding Paolini from outside the Top 30 to a career-high ranking of World No. 4, as well as helping her reach two Grand Slam singles finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

The successful partnership also saw Paolini and Sara Errani secure a gold medal in doubles at the Paris Olympics. Furthermore, Paolini achieved qualification for the prestigious WTA Finals in Riyadh for the first time in both singles and doubles. She also played a key role in Italy`s Billie Jean King Cup victory in November, marking the nation`s first title in over ten years.

Paolini`s announcement comes shortly after her noteworthy performance at the WTA 1000 Miami Open, where she reached the semifinals before losing to Aryna Sabalenka, who ultimately won the tournament and holds the World No. 1 ranking. Miami was a significant event for Paolini this year, being the first tournament where she won more than two matches, bringing her 2025 singles record to 12 wins and 6 losses.

Paolini further acknowledged Furlan`s unwavering commitment, energy, and sacrifices, often made while being away from his home and family. She reiterated her profound respect and appreciation for his professionalism, passion, and the enduring values he has instilled in her over the years of their partnership.
