Paige VanZant is poised to make history in the world of Power Slap. She is confirmed to compete for the inaugural women`s title belt during the upcoming International Fight Week events.
Since her departure from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2020, Paige VanZant has explored several different combat sports arenas, including appearances in Misfits Boxing and Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC). However, she appears to have found a consistent place within Dana White`s Power Slap promotion.
VanZant recently stepped back into a UFC corner to support her husband, Austin Vanderford, during his short-notice UFC debut at UFC Seattle. Vanderford secured a TKO victory in his bout, which was followed by a post-fight scuffle.
`12-Gauge` had also been scheduled to compete in a new mixed martial arts organization, GFL, but the promotion canceled its planned debut events, resulting in the cancellation of VanZant`s scheduled fight.
Paige VanZant Readies for Power Slap Title Bout During International Fight Week
The former UFC personality`s last three competitive appearances have been under the Power Slap banner, where she has publicly expressed enjoyment for the sport.
She secured a victory in her Power Slap debut against Christine Wolmarans, suggesting her potential in the relatively new sport. Several months later, she faced Chelsea Dodson, the wife of UFC veteran John Dodson, resulting in a draw.
Most recently, at Power Slap 12 in March, VanZant earned her second win in the promotion with a dominant performance over Mikael Michelle Brown, securing a unanimous decision victory.
Following that win, VanZant made a clear call to Dana White, requesting a shot at a title. She stated, “Hey, Dana (White), where`s that (125lb) belt, baby? Put me on the next card. Let`s get some women`s belts. We`re here to stay. We`re here to knock b—— out and slap people all day.”
Now, Dana White has granted VanZant`s request. She will indeed make history by competing for the first-ever women`s Power Slap championship belt in a rematch against Michelle Brown. The fight is scheduled to take place on June 27.
The Power Slap event is set for June 27, positioned just one day before UFC 317. This placement during International Fight Week is expected to make it a high-profile event.
International Fight Week Promises Significant Combat Sports Action
The UFC president is expected to announce the main event for UFC 317 in the near future, leading to fan speculation and predictions regarding the headlining bout.
Despite the upcoming UFC 317 announcement, White has appeared to take a less prominent role in some recent UFC duties. He drew criticism from fans after not appearing at the UFC 315 post-fight press conference the previous Saturday.
White currently manages responsibilities across the UFC, Power Slap, and TKO Boxing. This year is shaping up to be a crucial period for the development and success of all his combat sports ventures.
