The 2025 NWSL season continues, and the power rankings are updated. After three weeks, as the league pauses for international matches, these rankings will hold until NWSL action resumes.
There are already shifts since last week`s rankings. The biggest question of the season might have an early answer: Who can challenge Orlando for the top spot? Early signs point to Kansas City Current.
While not expecting much top-four movement so early, it`s interesting to see even the best teams making things competitive. Washington Spirit remains strong, but Orlando and Kansas City will be tough to surpass. Gotham might see changes after Tierna Davidson`s knee injury, which also affects her USWNT availability for April.
The mid-rank teams are stable, still figuring out their best lineups and strategies. The lower ranks have some new teams mixed with familiar ones.
Teams have a short break to regroup for the rest of the season.
2025 NWSL Power Rankings
Rank | Team | Change | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
1. | Kansas City Current | +1 | Kansas City Current is dominating in all aspects of the game. They are performing strongly against playoff contenders and setting a high standard for the league. |
2. | Orlando Pride | -1 | Barbra Banda hasn`t scored in two weeks. While a scoring defensive midfielder is a bonus, they need their MVP candidate to score too. Still a top team, even with a slight ranking drop. |
3. | Washington Spirit | — | Trinity Rodman is back with limited minutes, and Ashley Hatch is playing great. However, the defense is the standout this week, with strong chemistry between Rebecal Bernal, Tara McKeown, Esme Morgan, and Casey Krueger. |
4. | NJ/NY Gotham FC | -– | Grit alone will only keep them in the top four for so long. They need to use the break to address injuries if they want wins early in the season. |
5. | Houston Dash | +1 | Houston Dash has been challenging playoff teams early in the season and are rising in the rankings. Are they a dark horse or a sleeping giant? |
6. | Seattle Reign FC | -1 | Seattle Reign FC struggled to control possession and create chances. With veteran injuries, the coaching staff should trust their faster bench players more. |
7. | North Carolina Courage | -1 | North Carolina Courage missed a winnable game. They struggle to secure a clear win despite effort. Jaedyn Shaw`s time with the national team might help. |
8. | Angel City FC | +3 | Welcome to the top half, Angel City FC. Strong performances from Alyssa and Gisele Thompson, Savy King, Kennedy Fuller, and Riley Tiernan got them here. Hopefully, interim manager Sam Laity keeps playing the `kids.` |
9. | San Diego Wave FC | +1 | San Diego Wave FC challenged Orlando. Despite losing, their new and veteran players are showing cohesion. The midfield is connecting, and they may have found solutions in Kenza Dali and Gia Corely. |
10. | Utah Royals | -2 | Utah Royals look like they benefited from a coaching change last year rather than being a true dark horse. They need a reset, and the break is good for the coaches to adjust. |
11. | Bay FC | -2 | Bay FC failed to capitalize on chances against a top-four team. The ideas are there, but execution isn`t. Rising teams will overtake them without adjustments. |
12. | Racing Louisville FC | — | Racing Louisville FC took advantage of an opportunity against the league`s lowest-ranked team. They need to show more to move up. |
13. | Portland Thorns FC | — | Mackenzie Arnold`s great performance, including a penalty save, secured a result for Portland Thorns FC. Questionable shot selection keeps them searching for momentum. |
14. | Chicago Stars FC | — | When facing another struggling team, there`s a chance to change things, but not for Chicago Stars apparently. They are likely to remain last in the rankings. |
