MMA fans cringed as they watched a fight at Cage Warriors 187 where a fighter landed multiple painful low blows.
Cage Warriors, known for launching stars like Conor McGregor, held an event in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday. The fights were generally exciting with knockouts and submissions, but one undercard fight stood out for a different reason.
In a flyweight match between Redgie Hingston and Gary Priestly, Priestly hit Hingston with a low blow knee strike less than two minutes into the first round as he aimed for a stomach knee.
About a minute later, it happened again during a clinch. Then, a third groin strike occurred when they exchanged punches in the center of the cage.
Hingston clearly took a hit to his groin, and the referee finally penalized Priestly with a point deduction.
This point deduction became crucial because the fight ended in a draw after three rounds. Without the penalty, Priestly would have won by unanimous decision with 29-28 scores.
Fans online reacted strongly to the incident. One fan joked about the multiple low blows in one round possibly being a record. Others questioned why it took three low blows for the referee to deduct a point. Some fans humorously called it the “fight of the night.”
Cage Warriors is known for discovering top British MMA fighters such as Michael Bisping, Arnold Allen, Paddy Pimblett, and Dan Hardy.
Now, there`s another Cage Warriors fighter, Luke Riley (11-0 featherweight), who trains with Pimblett, that fans are urging Dana White to sign to the UFC.
Molly McCann, Riley`s teammate, mentioned before UFC London that Riley`s UFC contract was expected soon. However, a month later, there`s no news about a deal between White and this promising UK fighter.
