Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider have added another victory to their names, winning the doubles title at the Miami Open presented by Itaú, a WTA 1000 event.
In the Miami final, an all-unseeded match, Andreeva and Shnaider defeated Cristina Bucsa and Miyu Kato with a score of 6-3, 6-7(5), [10-2]. The match lasted 1 hour and 36 minutes, not counting a nearly six-hour rain delay.
This is the second and most significant WTA doubles title for both Andreeva and Shnaider. They previously won their first title as a team at the WTA 500 Brisbane in January and reached the semifinals of the Australian Open later that month.
As of Monday, Andreeva and Shnaider are expected to become the No. 2 doubles team in the PIF Race to the WTA Finals, second only to Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend.
The Miami final featured three players who earned women`s doubles medals at the previous Olympics. Andreeva and Shnaider secured a silver medal, while Bucsa won a bronze medal with Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Bucsa and Kato`s performance in Miami marked a turnaround for their season. Prior to this tournament, they had a 0-5 record as a team in 2025. However, they achieved their first team win in the first round in Miami and continued their strong run, even upsetting the top seeds Siniakova and Townsend in the semifinals.
Despite Bucsa and Kato`s momentum, Andreeva and Shnaider prevented them from winning the title. Andreeva, 17, and Shnaider, 20, both top 15 singles players, competed fiercely to secure the championship.
The final match began routinely for Andreeva and Shnaider, who established a set and a break lead at 6-3, 3-2 before the rain delay.
Bucsa and Kato fought back, forcing a second-set tiebreak and winning it with well-executed volleys.
However, Andreeva and Shnaider dominated the decisive match-tiebreak. Shnaider`s powerful lefty forehand and Andreeva`s forehand passing winner gave them a commanding 9-2 lead and multiple championship points.
They only needed one of those points to win the title. A strong serve from Shnaider followed by an Andreeva putaway secured their biggest title yet and moved them closer to the top of the PIF Race standings.
