Mexico Team Changes Hotel Due to LA Protests

Football news

Ahead of the Concacaf Gold Cup starting this weekend, the Mexican national soccer team has changed its hotel accommodations in Los Angeles. This decision was reportedly made due to security concerns arising from ongoing local protests. The team, known as El Tri, was initially planned to stay in downtown Los Angeles but has relocated to Long Beach to avoid potential unrest in the downtown area.

The team`s move is a direct response to anti-ICE protests, which have been occurring for several nights in the Los Angeles region. With National Guard troops and U.S. Marines deployed in the city, Concacaf has given approval for this last-minute change in lodging.

Mexico enters the tournament as the defending champions of the Concacaf Gold Cup. They are seeking to secure their third consecutive victory in a domestic tournament, having also won the Concacaf Nations League back in March. Placed in Group A, Mexico is set to compete against Costa Rica, Suriname, and the Dominican Republic. This Gold Cup serves as their final major competitive tournament before they co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and the United States.
