Manchester United Targets Matheus Cunha

Football news

Sources at CBS Sports indicate that Matheus Cunha is a key target for Manchester United as they plan to strengthen their attack under Ruben Amorim this summer.

Cunha, a forward for Wolverhampton Wanderers, has impressed in the Premier League this season. His contract includes an $83.5 million release clause that can be activated in the summer. It is anticipated that the Brazilian will leave Wolves, and he has also been mentioned as a potential signing for Arsenal and Chelsea.

This season, Cunha has scored 14 Premier League goals in 28 games for Wolves, who were battling relegation. This is six more goals than any Manchester United player, highlighting United`s goal-scoring struggles this campaign. In fact, Amorim`s team has scored 10 fewer goals than Wolves this season and is only positioned higher in 14th place due to a stronger defense.

Adding more goals to the team is a major priority for United this summer. However, their investment capability in attacking players will depend on whether they secure Champions League qualification for next season. Their best chance to enter the competition, or any European competition, is by winning the Europa League, where they are in the semifinals against Athletic Bilbao.

Manchester United are also reportedly interested in Ipswich forward Liam Delap and have been linked with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray. Signing either of these players would not necessarily prevent a move for Cunha, who could play as a central forward or in one of the two attacking positions behind the main striker in Amorim`s tactical system.

Cunha has openly expressed his desire to leave Wolves. In March, he told The Observer, `I`ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to compete for titles, for significant achievements. I believe I have the potential to do so.`

The 25-year-old joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2023 and has scored 32 goals in 87 appearances across all competitions.
