MIAMI — In a captivating Saturday match at the Miami Open, rising American star Ashlyn Krueger delivered a standout performance, progressing further in the tournament alongside seasoned players.
Ashlyn Krueger defeated Leylah Fernandez with scores of 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the Round of 16. Her next opponent will be decided in the match between No. 9 seed Zheng Qinwen and qualifier Taylor Townsend.
The 20-year-old American player matched her best career result in a WTA 1000 tournament, a feat she previously achieved in Toronto last year. Only Madison Keys, Mirra Andreeva, and Iga Swiatek have recorded more such wins.
Krueger`s powerful strokes were once again evident in her match against Fernandez. She maintained a strong serve, preventing any breaks, and her total of 69 winners is only exceeded by McCartney Kessler (84) and Hailey Baptiste (78).
