UFC commentator Joe Rogan, known for his often controversial views, has once again stirred debate by proposing a rule change in MMA. He suggests legalizing a particularly dangerous strike that is currently prohibited.
Joe Rogan`s extensive background in martial arts, including a past competitive career, gives weight to his opinions on combat sports. He has become a prominent figure in the UFC, especially as a long-time commentator.

Joe Rogan Advocates for Back-of-Head Strikes
Adding to his list of provocative statements, Rogan has recently questioned the illegality of strikes to the back of the head in MMA. This suggestion comes after the recent legalization of downward elbows in the UFC, a rule change long advocated for.
Rogan argues that if downward elbows are now legal, then strikes to the back of the head should also be permitted. He voiced this opinion on his podcast with Jorge Masvidal, stating he doesn`t understand why such strikes are banned.
“I don’t even know if we should stop hitting people in the back of the head; it doesn’t make any sense to me, and it should be legal,” Rogan stated.
He further elaborated, mentioning a neuroscientist perspective that various areas of the head, including the temples and eyes, are also vulnerable. He seems to imply a degree of inconsistency in rule enforcement regarding vulnerable strike zones.
Michael Chandler`s Back-of-Head Strikes Example
One fighter who might welcome this rule change is lightweight contender Michael Chandler. He faced criticism during his fight against Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 for landing strikes to the back of Oliveira`s head.
Rogan`s suggestion is another in a series of unconventional ideas he has proposed for MMA, including bare-knuckle fighting, resuming rounds in the same position, and allowing headbutts.
