PFL fighter Jay-Jay Wilson is not planning to invest his $500,000 prize money if he wins this year’s tournament. Instead, he has his sights set on buying a Lamborghini.
Wilson, with a record of 10 wins and 1 loss, is set to face UFC veteran Mads Burnell in the first round of the lightweight world tournament on April 18. He is just three victories away from securing the substantial prize money.
Unlike many fighters who prioritize reinvesting their winnings, the 27-year-old Wilson intends to enjoy his prize and has a luxury car in mind.
However, before considering his purchase, “The Maori Kid” must overcome a significant challenge in Burnell. The Danish fighter is known for his well-rounded skills, excelling in both striking and grappling.
Jay-Jay Wilson Says He Will Buy a Lamborghini if He Wins PFL Tournament
After a period away from competition due to a USADA case, Jay-Jay Wilson is returning to action in this year`s PFL tournament. If he is successful, he would likely need to face his former opponent Gadzhi Rabadanov again and compete three times within five months.
Winning the tournament would bring not only a championship belt and a chance to compete against Usman Nurmagomedov but also a significant $500,000 cash prize. In contrast to fighters who prefer to save and invest their earnings, Wilson has immediate spending plans.
“I’ve been talking about getting a Lambo,” he mentioned in an interview. “Maybe I’ll just get me a Harley [Davidson motorbike]. Well, I don’t know, a Lambo sounds pretty good to me.”
He added, regarding reactions to his plan: “Every single time I say that to someone, though, they say ‘you are f—ing stupid. Don’t get a f—ing Lambo. It’s going to be all your money’. I’m like, yeah, but it’s a Lambo, you know? I’ll win another one then I can buy a house with that one!”
“I want to go to people and when they start talking s—, they start saying some s— to me, I just want to turn around and say, ‘Hey, what color is your Lamborghini cup holder?’ And then just walk away with nothing like that’s the best comeback. Oh wait, don’t have one? OK, walk away.”
Jay-Jay Wilson Explains What to Expect in Fight Against Mads Burnell
Wilson`s immediate focus is on his fight with Mads Burnell, a strong and versatile fighter from Denmark. Burnell trains at Xtreme Couture alongside fighters like Sean Strickland and is considered a difficult opponent due to his proficiency in all aspects of MMA.
“I think, if he’s smart he’s going to try to keep us standing. Maybe he’s going to shoot a takedown here and there, but if he’s smart, he’s not going to really be wrestling. I’ve been competing jiu-jitsu at the highest level for majority of my career.”
“I came from jiu-jitsu, I was competing high level. I could podium at worlds as a black belt. I have submitted black belt world champions in tournaments. People talk about Mads’ jiu-jitsu, but I’m like, ‘I’ve never seen him on the scene’
“I never seen him at ADCC. I never seen him at worlds. I’ve never seen him at these prestigious tournaments, competing with the highest level grapplers. So, within jiu-jitsu, I have confidence.”
“I believe I have the best jiu-jitsu in the division easily. That goes across all organizations. I don’t believe everyone has the grappling capabilities that I have.”
