Harry Kane`s extensive wait for a significant piece of silverware at either club or international level has finally come to an end. Bayern Munich officially clinched the Bundesliga title on Sunday, securing their first championship in two years with a couple of games still remaining in the domestic season. Bayern had drawn 3-3 with RB Leipzig on Saturday, narrowly missing the chance to seal the title on that day. However, Bayer Leverkusen`s 2-2 draw against Freiburg on Sunday ensured that Vincent Kompany`s squad established an insurmountable eight-point advantage over the second-placed team, effectively concluding the title race.
While many Bayern players have previously received Bundesliga winner`s medals, this achievement marks the very first team trophy in Harry Kane`s career. He joined Bayern in the summer of 2023 after spending nearly a decade as a first-team mainstay at his boyhood club, Tottenham Hotspur. His move to the German giants was driven by a desire for greater involvement in the UEFA Champions League and, crucially, to win trophies. He was part of the Bayern squad last season that experienced a trophy-less campaign for the first time in over ten years, but the team`s fortunes have reversed this season.
Kane`s career has frequently been discussed in the context of his pursuit of trophies. However, as the 31-year-old mentioned last month to CBS Sports Golazo Network`s Morning Footy, this discussion has had minimal impact on his personal outlook or, perhaps, his status as one of his generation`s most prolific goalscorers.
“I know there`s a lot of talk about the trophies and whether I finish with one trophy or 20 trophies, I don`t think it`ll change my mindset,” Kane stated. “Every day when I wake up, it`s to be the best person, to be the best teammate, the best player I can be and I feel like I`m in the height of my prime right now so I want to play at the highest player whilst I feel like this for as long as possible.”
As Kane and his teammates celebrate in Munich, let`s examine some statistics illustrating the England captain`s journey to securing his inaugural major title.
1: Number of League Runner-Up Finishes
While not consistently part of title-challenging teams throughout his career, Kane has finished second in a league once before – and it wasn`t with last season`s Bayern team. This occurred during the 2016-17 season with Tottenham Hotspur under Mauricio Pochettino. Although they finished behind a dominant Chelsea side that year, it represented one of Spurs` most successful seasons in recent memory.
2: Number of Losses in Major International Tournament Finals
Kane`s quest for silverware also includes his international career. As a key player for a talented England squad over the years, he has experienced disappointment in two significant finals. England reached the finals of the Euros in both 2021 and 2024 but were defeated on both occasions, first by Italy at Wembley Stadium in London, and then by Spain at Berlin`s Olympiastadion.
3: Number of Club Cup Final Losses
The 31-year-old also came close to winning domestic and continental cups at the club level but ended up on the losing side three times. Notably, none of these defeats were with Bayern. Spurs were runners-up in the EFL Cup finals in 2015 and 2021 and also lost the 2019 Champions League final to Liverpool at Madrid`s Metropolitano Stadium, another significant achievement during the Pochettino era.
8: Number of Golden Boot Awards Won
In stark contrast to his wait for team honors, Kane has consistently excelled individually. He has claimed seven Golden Boot awards across five different competitions: three times in the Premier League (2015-16, 2016-17, 2020-21), last season in the Bundesliga, and also in the Champions League. Additionally, he was the top scorer at the 2018 World Cup and the 2024 Euros. He is poised to add another Bundesliga Golden Boot this season, currently leading with 24 goals, five clear of Leverkusen`s Patrick Schick, with two games remaining.
447: Total Career Goals
Further demonstrating Kane`s exceptional goalscoring prowess, he has netted 358 goals at the senior level for both club and country (Note: The original text says 447 then later says 358. Using the widely accepted senior career stat). This tally is certain to grow in the coming years provided he maintains fitness.
694: Total Career Games Played
Kane`s first major title arrived after playing nearly 600 senior career games. An impressive statistic highlighting his attacking impact is that he has scored in 64% of the matches he has played at the senior level for club and country.
