Formula 1 2026 Calendar Announcement

F1 news

Formula 1 has officially released its racing calendar for the 2026 season. The key update includes the addition of a new Grand Prix event in Madrid, while the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix held at Imola has been removed from the schedule.

This 24-race provisional calendar received formal approval from the FIA, which serves as F1`s governing body, during a recent meeting of the World Motor Sport Council held on Tuesday.

The planned new race in Madrid was initially announced in 2024. However, its place on the finalized calendar is still contingent upon the circuit receiving official homologation from the FIA, confirming it meets all required safety and operational standards.

The inclusion of Madrid necessitates the departure of Imola from the schedule. Imola hosted the final race under its current contract term in May. This change allows Formula 1 to adhere to its self-imposed maximum limit of 24 races per season.

In addition to the debut of Madrid, other significant date adjustments have been made. The Monaco Grand Prix has been moved from its long-standing late May slot to early June. This new timing eliminates the historical date conflict with the Indianapolis 500. Furthermore, the Canadian Grand Prix shifts to a late May date, a logistical improvement designed to allow team freight and equipment used at the preceding Miami Grand Prix to remain in North America, rather than requiring a round trip back to Europe.

The 2026 season is set to begin in Australia on March 8. The championship will then span a period of ten months, concluding with the final race scheduled in Abu Dhabi on December 6.

The 2026 season will also be notable as the first to feature a new set of technical regulations. These rule changes include revised hybrid power units that are designed to generate 50% of their power output from battery packs and the remaining 50% from an internal combustion engine running on sustainable fuel sources. The grid composition is also expected to change, with Cadillac set to join as an 11th team, the Sauber team rebranding and competing as Audi, and Ford entering into a partnership with Red Bull to supply engines.

The United States will continue to host three rounds of the championship calendar: the Miami Grand Prix is scheduled for May 3, the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, will take place on October 25, and the Las Vegas Grand Prix is set for November 21.
