This summer, the football landscape is transformed by the debut of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup. This first enlarged edition is hosted in the United States, featuring 32 global teams vying for a portion of the substantial $1 billion prize fund.
The tournament features numerous prominent clubs, including UEFA Champions League victors Paris Saint-Germain and Argentine powerhouse Boca Juniors, all aiming for a deep run. European clubs dominate the field with 12 representatives, while South America contributes six. Asia and Africa each send four teams, and North America adds five, including three MLS sides. Oceania has a single representative, Auckland City, the only amateur team.
While all teams share the goal of success, their aspirations differ. Underdogs like Lionel Messi`s Inter Miami and Simone Inzaghi`s Al-Hilal hope to make an impact against expected European dominance. Conversely, major European contenders such as Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Inzaghi`s former club Inter Milan, who finished their domestic and continental seasons without trophies, view this as a final opportunity for silverware this campaign.
As the tournament progresses, here is an overview of the Club World Cup schedule and results so far:
