Fan Banned by Gotham FC for Verbally Abusing Barbra Banda

Football news

NJ/NY Gotham FC has taken action against a fan, revoking their season ticket and prohibiting them from attending any future events. This decision follows an investigation into the fan`s behavior, which revealed they used hateful language directed at Barbra Banda of Orlando Pride.

Gotham FC stated that they conducted a thorough investigation in cooperation with the NWSL, team staff, and stadium security. They interviewed multiple witnesses, including fans, stadium personnel, team staff, and league representatives. Security footage and logs were also reviewed. The club concluded that the fan violated the NWSL Fan Code of Conduct.

The incident occurred at Sports Illustrated Stadium during Gotham`s 2-0 defeat to the Pride on March 23rd, prompting the investigation. Gotham initially responded to the incident by having stadium security address and monitor the individual during the match. Gotham FC, Orlando Pride, and the NWSL collectively expressed their strong support for Barbra Banda after the incident.

This is not the first instance of Barbra Banda facing hateful language. Previously, author J.K. Rowling publicly attacked Banda in November after she was recognized as the BBC`s Woman Footballer of the Year. Rowling misgendered Banda in a post on X, making offensive remarks.

The Pride, the NWSL Players Association, and Meghann Burke, the PA`s executive director, quickly defended Banda against Rowling`s comments. Burke strongly criticized Rowling`s remarks on X, emphasizing the NWSLPA`s support for Banda.
