Newcastle manager Eddie Howe will be absent from his team`s Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday after being admitted to the hospital. Howe had been feeling unwell for several days and was hospitalized on Friday night for tests.
A statement from the club reported that medical staff kept Howe in the hospital overnight for further tests, which are still ongoing. He is conscious, speaking with his family, and receiving expert medical care.
Newcastle United conveyed their best wishes to Eddie for a quick recovery, and stated that more updates will be provided later.
In Howe`s absence, assistant managers Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will take charge of the Magpies at St. James` Park for a critical match in the club`s Champions League qualification ambitions. Newcastle is currently seventh in the Premier League but will have played fewer games than all teams above them by Sunday`s kickoff.
Newcastle will play their other game in hand on Wednesday when they host Crystal Palace.
Jason Tindall, who spoke at the press conference on Friday in place of Howe, mentioned that the Newcastle boss has been quite unwell recently but they have been in contact daily.
Tindall added that they have been speaking multiple times a day, ensuring that preparations have not been affected. He expressed hope that Howe will recover soon.
