Eddie Hall 'almost died' setting deadlift world record 9 years before World's Strongest Man fight

MMA news

Eddie Hall is widely recognized for winning the World`s Strongest Man title in 2017, long before he transitioned into combat sports.

A significantly heavy MMA bout is scheduled for this weekend in Poland, featuring Eddie Hall against Mariusz Pudzianowski at KSW 105.

Hall challenged Pudzianowski, also a former World`s Strongest Man, last year following a peculiar 2-on-1 fight where he knocked out both opponents, marking his initial display of cage fighting ability.

Since that time, Hall has trained with UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, who has been helping him prepare for his forthcoming fight against the fellow strongman.

Eddie Hall Claims Near-Death Experience After World Record Lift

Mariusz Pudzianowski, a five-time World`s Strongest Man champion, moved into MMA in 2009 and has since established himself as a notable figure in the heavyweight class.

Hall has pursued a career in combat sports for some time, and after participating in exhibition boxing and unusual 2-on-1 fights, he is set to compete professionally this Saturday.

However, nine years ago, the British strongman asserts that he nearly died shortly after setting the world record for the heaviest deadlift by lifting 500kg.

Recounting the moment, Hall explained, “When I lifted it, as soon as it passed my knees and I reached the halfway point, it felt like… a feeling of `There you go.`”

“I blacked out,” he continued. “I completed the lift, received the down signal, stood there enjoying the moment briefly, and then when I released the weight, it was as if a massive surge of blood rushed everywhere. I managed to release one hand and then simply lost consciousness.”

“I was convulsing… going in and out of consciousness, shaking uncontrollably,” he added. “It took me a minute to regain control. There was blood everywhere… My blood pressure couldn`t be read… My body just couldn`t cope with it… It was a genuinely concerning time.”

Hall and Pudzianowski Expected to Weigh Over 600lbs Combined

Their bout this Saturday is classified as a super heavyweight contest, and the combined weight of the two former World`s Strongest Men is projected to exceed 600lbs.

Prior to the fight in Poland, the two massive individuals had an awkward encounter, highlighting their sheer size.

Naturally, Pudzianowski possesses considerably more combat sports experience than Hall (known as `The Beast`), having secured notable victories against fighters like Butterbean and Bob Sapp over his career.
