Dorival Junior Dismissed as Brazil Coach After Argentina Loss

Football news

Brazil`s national football team will have a new coach before the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Dorival Junior has been let go after Brazil`s 4-1 defeat to Argentina in a World Cup qualifying match. This is the most goals Brazil has ever conceded in a qualifying game. Although Brazil is currently fourth in the standings, there`s a real possibility they could fail to qualify for the World Cup, as they are only seven points ahead of Bolivia, who are in eighth place.

Brazil, a team that last won the World Cup in the United States in 1994, faces high expectations. Despite their history, they haven`t reached a World Cup final since 2002. After Tite resigned after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Brazil will now look for their third coach since then.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced in a statement that Dorival Júnior is no longer the coach of the national team. The CBF thanked him for his work and wished him well in the future. They also stated they will begin searching for a replacement immediately.

This decision came after a meeting between CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues and Dorival. They decided to part ways. This move could potentially lead to the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti, whom the CBF has previously tried to hire.

Other possible candidates to replace Dorival Junior include Flamengo manager Felipe Luis. Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista spoke about this possibility on Friday.

Baptista mentioned that Filipe Luis has a promising future and believes he could coach the Brazilian national team one day. However, he feels it`s not the right time for Filipe to take on this role, considering his age and current career stage. He said he would advise Filipe against taking the job now, emphasizing that life involves making choices. He added that he would be surprised if Filipe accepted the challenge at this moment, based on what he knows of him.

Brazil has enough talent in their team to perform better, but a new coach is needed before their match against Ecuador in June. With the World Cup just over a year away, every day is crucial as Brazil starts over again.
