Denis Frimpong Scores Comeback KO Win After Viral Paddy Pimblett Gym Fight

MMA news

Denis Frimpong achieved a significant victory on Saturday night, bouncing back from the attention he received after his viral gym sparring session with Paddy Pimblett.

Earlier this year, Paddy `The Baddy` Pimblett gained widespread attention when video footage of him involved in a gym fight became popular online.

UFC fighter Paddy Pimblett and the MMA prospect Denis Frimpong (record 6-2) had a public disagreement online that they eventually resolved through a physical confrontation.

The UFC lightweight competitor applied his well-known rear-naked choke. Controversy arose when Pimblett was criticized for not releasing the hold immediately, despite Frimpong clearly tapping out in distress.

The encounter with Pimblett brought Frimpong into public attention.

Frimpong, aged 30, recently mentioned in an interview that the widely shared gym video resulted in significantly more negative reactions than positive ones.

However, he effectively countered this negativity by securing a spectacular victory at OKTAGON 71.

Facing a tough opponent in Arijan Topallaj (record 7-1-1), Frimpong persevered and defeated him via strikes in the third and final round of their bout held at BMW Park in Munich, Germany.

What`s Next for Paddy Pimblett?

Pimblett`s notable gym session with Frimpong preceded the most significant fight of his professional MMA career so far.

In April, the British fighter delivered a dominant performance against Michael Chandler, leading to a stoppage victory in the third round at UFC 314.

Now, Pimblett is aiming for a fight against former interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, potentially a title eliminator bout.

He stated in an interview, “I am certain that if I defeat Gaethje, I will be next in line for a title shot.”

He added, “That could be my next fight, yes. It just depends on whether he accepts it. For him, it would mean fighting someone lower ranked again.”

Pimblett expressed his preference: “I`d like to fight him in Abu Dhabi in October, on that Pay-per-view event. That`s when I want to compete, and that`s what I`m preparing for. Based on my performance against Chandler, I believe I would finish Justin Gaethje.”
