Dalma Galfi Claims Oeiras WTA 125 Title

Sports News

Dalma Galfi of Hungary has triumphed at the Oeiras Ladies Open, securing her first WTA 125 title after two previous runner-up finishes. In the final, the unseeded Galfi defeated second seed Katie Volynets of the United States with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The clay-court tournament faced schedule disruptions due to rain throughout the week, but the final was successfully completed on Sunday. Galfi`s victory came after a 2-hour and 13-minute match.

Reflecting on her win, Galfi posted on Instagram, stating, “Third time’s the charm,” celebrating her most significant professional achievement to date.

Galfi`s previous attempts at a WTA 125 title ended in losses to Sara Errani at Contrexeville in 2022 and to Darja Semenistaja at La Bisbal d`Emporda earlier in the same month. All of her WTA 125 finals have been played on clay and extended to three sets.

In this final, despite losing the first set, Galfi regained control, winning the following two sets decisively. She successfully defended against all four break points she faced in the second and third sets combined.

En route to the title, Galfi only dropped a single set, which was the first set of the final match. She has an impressive record of nine wins in her last ten matches, with the Oeiras title coming two weeks after her final appearance in La Bisbal d`Emporda.

Currently ranked at No. 149, Galfi is expected to climb closer to the Top 120 in the upcoming rankings. A former junior standout, having won the 2015 ITF Junior World Championship and the Junior US Open, Galfi achieved her career-high WTA ranking of No. 79 in 2022.

In addition to Galfi`s singles victory, Portuguese sisters Francisca and Matilde Jorge successfully defended their Oeiras Ladies Open doubles title on Sunday.

The Jorge siblings, who won their biggest career title at this event last year, repeated their success as the No. 2 seeds this year. They defeated Anastasia Detiuc and Patricia Maria Tig, who were unseeded, 6-1, 6-2 in a 63-minute final.
