Credit One Charleston Open becomes first clay tournament to use ELC Live

Sports News

The Credit One Charleston Open is set to be the first clay court tournament on the Hologic WTA Tour to implement Electronic Line Calling Live (ELC Live) during its event from March 29th to April 6th.

ELC Live, which provides automated “out” calls, has been successfully used on various court surfaces. Charleston will be the pioneer WTA clay tournament to utilize this technology for both qualifying and main draw matches.

Developed through extensive testing, ELC Live enhances accuracy and consistency. It will also be deployed at the WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open and the Internazionali BNL d`Italia (Rome) later this season.

Bob Moran, Charleston Tournament Director, stated, “Introducing Electronic Line Calling at the Credit One Charleston Open is a significant advancement for clay court tournaments on the Hologic WTA Tour. This innovative technology improves the precision and reliability of line calls on clay, establishing a new benchmark in tennis. By adopting this technology, we aim to provide a better experience for players and fans and enhance the quality of competition at clay court events.”

Fabrice Chouquet, WTA Senior Vice President – Competition & On-Site Operations, commented, “We appreciate Charleston`s adoption of Electronic Line Calling Live this year and are encouraged to see more WTA tournaments recognizing the benefits of evolving technology. ELC Live ensures consistent and accurate line calls, minimizing disruptions and benefiting players, fans, media, and tournament operations.”

This is one of several innovations being introduced on the Hologic WTA Tour, including the Video Review System, which is also available on two courts in Charleston.
