Carlos Prates: Ian Machado Garry is Headlining Only Because of Me

Sports News

Carlos Prates confidently states he is the main attraction in his upcoming fight against the higher-ranked Ian Machado Garry.

After a spectacular start in the UFC with four consecutive knockouts in 2024, Carlos Prates, known as ‘The Fighting Nerds,’ is set for his second main event, this time against Ian Machado Garry.

Prates secured a ranking by defeating seasoned contender Neil Magny at UFC Vegas 100 last November.

Now, the 31-year-old fighter will headline UFC Kansas City this Saturday at the T-Mobile Center. This Fight Night event will also feature notable fighters such as Michel Pereira, Anthony Smith, and Giga Chikadze.

For Machado Garry, this is his first UFC main event in ten fights, coming after a loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov in a title eliminator at UFC 310.

Carlos Prates Believes Ian Machado Garry is Too `Boring` to Headline Alone

Prates seems unimpressed with Machado Garry`s record of 15 wins and 1 loss. He describes the calculated striker as `boring`.

Machado Garry has a finish rate of 38% in the UFC, with five of his fights going to decision, including controversial decision wins against tough fighters like Geoff Neal and Michael ‘Venom’ Page.

In contrast to his own 100% knockout rate, Carlos Prates argues that the `boring` Machado Garry is only in the main event spotlight this weekend because of him.

Carlos Prates: ‘You Will Leave with a Loss, But a Full Wallet’

Machado Garry has earned only one bonus in the UFC for his headkick knockout of Daniel Rodriguez in 2023.

The Irish fighter has another opportunity to earn a $50,000 bonus if he can finish Prates, who has been dominant in the UFC recently.

Machado Garry accepted the fight against Prates on short notice and has been verbally attacking the Brazilian on social media, calling him a ‘quitter’ and a fake fighter.

Prates has responded, stating that Machado Garry will earn more money due to this short-notice opportunity and will be grateful after Prates knocks him out on Saturday.

“You’ll make good money,” Prates said about his upcoming opponent.

“After he wakes up, he’ll have to say: ‘Thank you Carlos Prates, you made me good money…’

“You will go out with a defeat but with a full pocket,” Prates added.
